Our client has a requirement for a Buyer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Barrow-in-Furness
Role Purpose
As Buyer, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of high-quality procurement services, managing Purchase Orders from creation through to delivery, and supporting supplier performance. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics and materials teams to drive operational efficiency and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with company procurement and buying policies.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and provide a high level of procurement support.
- Partner with internal customers to analyse spending and identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
- Understand and validate procurement requirements to ensure business needs are met.
- Proactively support business owners to ensure the availability of goods and services within required timescales.
- Raise, manage and track Purchase Orders through to successful site delivery.
- Manage supplier performance, ensuring quality standards and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement processes and procedures.
- Assist with the implementation and utilisation of procurement catalogues.
- Support supplier negotiations, contract implementation and performance management activities.
- Identify and help deliver cost-saving opportunities through tender exercises, negotiations and contract renewals.
- Support material coordination activities and collaborate closely with logistics and materials teams.
Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience using SAP within a procurement or buying environment.
- Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role.
- Strong customer-focused approach with excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience supporting sourcing, procurement and contract management activities.
- Ability to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Commercially aware with strong business acumen.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Degree educated preferred.
